Lonely Wholesome

Vinyl & Lathe Cut Records

Lonely Wholesome is one of Jonah's projects. Young Guv / Ben Cook sometimes helps out with mixing, production and other stuff.

Mike Haliechuk says: Lonely Wholesome is one of Jonah's "secret" bands. He likes to play instruments and sing, so he has a band where he does mostly both. ( FU Mixtape 5 Liner Notes):

Check out Jonah's soundcloud for some nice tunes. Discographied below are the following physical releases:

Lathe-Cut Disk

Notes:
1. Single-sided disk with two tracks. The record sold out very quickly, but disaster struck at the label and most, if not all of the records were not sent out. Apparently some surfaced later, in Toronto second-hand shops...

From Jonah's Instagram: Unexpectedly united with a copy of the Lonely Wholesome "Who Killed Anna?" 12" acetate from 2009. This came out in what was supposed to be an addition of 1-200, of which maybe 30 were actually produced before the label guy disappeared. I have never seen, heard, or held one until today. PS it rips.

3. Anna Politovskaya...

Of the above coloured versions, 25 copies have 'signed' sleeves.

*Pressing Note From Dan @ Wild Animals:
also, i got an extra 15 black copies with the big hole....i've stamped the labels and they have the yellow 'spiders' but i literally only had a few over 400 sleeves so once i'd fucked up a bit of printing, i decided to just number them up to a clean 400 rather that 408 or 415 or anything like that....although, 408 does look like a nice number now i've typed it.

Inserts: Regular insert as pictured above
Variants: Black vinyl plus four colour variants, some of which have signed sleeves - see below.

'Pink /purrple marbled'
'Blue marbled'
'White'
'Green marbled'

'Signed' sleeve version

From Wild Animals Blog:
So, Fucked Up were over in Australia in Feb and i finally got to meet Jonah when they played at the Ding Dong Lounge. I got him to sign some records in the hope that some of you kind folks will buy it!

I've got 25 signed copies of the 7" on cloured vinyl, thats pink/purple marbled, blue marbled, green marbled & white.

Now, i say 'signed'...Jonah sat down with a sharpie and wrote/draw some odd things on the back of the sleeves! A maple leaf, some London postcodes, reviews of the band that was playing at the time...all sorts.

Notes:

Dan Williams of Wild Animals Records was living in England when he sent a message to Jonah Falco expressing an interest in releasing some Lonely Wholesome material. Jonah missed the message. Two years drifted by. Dan moved to Australia. Human-beings everywhere got older or died. Then one day Jonah found the message, contacted Dan and everyone lived happily ever after.

You can read the full epic story on Vice-Noisey and you can read an interview with Dan on the Psychedelic Baby.

Dan had a few copies of the limited colours left when I contacted him yesterday, hit him up before someone else gets there first.

Jonah said:
Making this song fractured was important. It was done after the lyrics were written. The lyrics, which are Mike’s, vaguely detail a person unraveling. “Too many ticks, not enough tocks.” In order to make this song interesting, the song had started to take on the qualities of the lyrics itself. Usually you write lyrics to what’s the mood, or if you try to upset that. With this we had the opposite. We had a song which had a set of qualities. Generally speaking, they were standard for Fucked Up. Then the lyrics were written. Then the song was changed to fit the lyrics. It didn’t get changed tonally. It got changed structurally in a very artificial way with gaps. This is representative of a different adaptation of song craft- maybe it’s a focus on technology over the instruments themselves, which drives people to madness sometimes- the loss of the physical world. All of these things which are going away, which were taken for granted- the physical is becoming fetish. And here we have this song, with these people and these instruments, which is supposed to be the most direct line between the participants, the producer, and the receiver, and it’s really being disrupted by the technology in the way. In some way, the format of songwriting itself is being disrupted.

Mike described it to someone like this:

"The theme of 'Year of the Hare' focuses on time, and becoming lost in it.  The modern way of life, getting stuck in time-sucking gadgets and trends, stress and scheduling. This unsolvable video we thought was an appropriate way to premiere the song online - in small little chunks of time that are impossible to navigate through, you can only get lost in them and try to find your way out."

Like the character's friend, the Hatter, the March Hare feels compelled to always behave as though it is tea-time because the Hatter supposedly "murdered the time" whilst singing for the Queen of Hearts.

FU FB Post - 06 March 2015
EXCITED for this one. FU have been fans of converge since we were teen agers. HARE is one of the weirdest FU songs in a long time. Jake Bannon artwork. Trippy bside. Cinematic editing. June 16.

J Banon FB Post - 06 March 2015:
Full wild illustration/collage for the Fucked Up "Year of the Hare" 12"EP, due out on Deathwish Inc. June 16th. My goal was to create something in my style that captured the energy and texture of the music. I'm not particularly good at bunnies, so I went with a human figure adorned with rabbit ears. Just as fitting. Thanks people. -J.

EDIT (Too much information)

I had a copy of Looking For Gold that was missing a back panel...

Russ appears on  mixtape 5,  does Salem Rages and cool sketches, and provides security at FU shows, he's been to more than 30 fucked up gigs and he made this new sketch x cut & paste back panel:

Happy Christmas

This picture shows a message to Luke Mumford of Genetic Angry, on the back of the Halloween poster in the previous post. The message is from Dave Brown, drummer of Career Suicide, who is pictured pumping a fist in the show picture in the previous post and is also the Richard Branson of Sewercide Records...

Here are the first three Sewercide Records. The Genetic Angry 7" in the centre with the plain black sleeve was the second release.

The poster includes a message on the back, more about that later.

Forget vinyl, these things are the future

Highlights include:

  • Different artwork
  • Alternative edit of "Queen of Hearts"
  • ChemMod CD (Similar to ChemCom CD but newer and not so common)
  • The promo stickers referring to shows in London...

Now that most of the FU records are safely catalogued (Just Glass Boys to go) I'll be adding a few vinyl compilations and solo projects etc...

Fucked Up + Photocopied

Finally, got hold of a photocopied No Pasaran (above right). These are hand-made pocket sleeves, photocopied, folded, pasted and assembled, probably with loving care, before the proper sleeves arrived. They were given away or sold at early shows, so it's the first available verision of the first 7" and worth a few punk points, even though it looks a bit shonky. This one was given to a member of the Satanic Surfers at a show in Toronto, linking it to the 05/27/02 date below.

Will & Fred

The last man is a term used  Friedrich Nietzsche in Thus Spoke Zarathustra to describe the antithesis of the imagined superior being, the Ãœbermensch, whose imminent appearance is heralded by Zarathustra. The last man is tired of life, takes no risks, and seeks only comfort and security.

The last men claim to have discovered happiness, but ''BLINK'' every time they say so.
(That's from Wikipedia, so it's definitely true)

'What is love? What is creation? What is longing? What is a star?' thus asks the last man, and blinks.
The earth has become small, and on it hops the last man, who makes everything small. His race is as ineradicable as the flea; the last man lives longest. 'We have invented happiness,'say the last men, and they blink. They have left the regions where it was hard to live, for one needs warmth. One still loves one's neighbor and rubs against him, for one needs warmth...
One still works, for work is a form of entertainment. But one is careful lest the entertainment be too harrowing. One no longer becomes poor or rich: both require too much exertion. Who still wants to rule? Who obey? Both require too much exertion.
No shepherd and one herd! Everybody wants the same, everybody is the same: whoever feels different goes voluntarily into a madhouse.
'Formerly, all the world was mad,' say the most refined, and they blink...
One has one's little pleasure for the day and one's little pleasure for the night: but one has a regard for health.
'We have invented happiness,' say the last men, and they blink."
